Installation -
1. First you will want to create a directory to hold Primal Chaos
and unzip the file (Which you probably have already done).
2. Secondly you will have to run "INSTALL.EXE". Doing this will
install all of the data files that are needed to run the game.
3. Now you must configure this door to run on your system:
A: If you are not using a fossil driver then go and edit the
CHAOS.CFG file and activate all of the options (remove the
semi-colons) and input the appropriate information for each.
Options that you should activate:
"NoFossil","PortAddress","PortIRQ"
B: If you are using a fossil driver then just go on to step
number 4. The .CFG should not be edited.
4. Fourth you will want to edit your nightly batch file (The one
that runs at 12:00 midnight) to run the file "MAINT.EXE" also
enclosed in the game. You will have to run this file EVERY
night or the game will not run correctly.
5. Then you will want to run the program "EDITOR.EXE". First in
this program you will want to scroll down the "editor" menu
until you get to "Node Editor". Push enter and you will come
upon a Node Editor. For each of your nodes you will have to
input the correct Drop File Path (With a trailing backslash)
and Serial Port Address.
Example Drop File Path:
C:\BBS\
(Your Drop File is located in the C:\BBS\ directory)
Example Serial Port Address:
2E8
(This is the standard Serial Port Address for Com 4)
Also in the "EDITOR.EXE" you can input your registration
information. You will want to scroll over to the far right
and go to "Register The Game". If you push enter here it
will ask you for Your Sysop Name, BBS Name, and Registration
Code. If you enter all of these correctly it will update
your information and make this game a registered one :).
Many other editors and setup programs lie in this EDITOR.EXE
file that you can use. You can edit about anything that you
would like once you register the game <g>.
6. Create The Batch file for this door as shown in the next
section.
Running The Game -
This game is not a hard game to run on your system. It supports
the following drop files:
CALLINFO.BBS
CHAIN.TXT
DOOR.SYS
DORINFO1.DEF
EXITINFO.BBS
SFDOORS.DAT
The drop file path is inputted in the Node Editor in the "EDITOR.EXE"
program for each node as explained in the section above.
Example Batch Files:
1. A Single Node System:
cd\bbs\doors\chaos (Go to Primal Chaos Directory)
chaos /n1 (Door /Node1)
cd\bbs (Return to BBS)
2. A Multi Node System:
cd\bbs\doors\chaos (Go to Primal Chaos Directory)
chaos /n%NODE% (Door /Node number)
cd\bbs (Return to BBS)
Now, in execution of the door here are the parameters that you can use:
/N## - You must use this parameter every time you execute Primal
Chaos. It defines which node that the person is being logged
in under. Single node systems can usually just put /n1 and
it will work fine. If you are running a multi-node system then
you will have to put /n%NODE%, or whatever your node variable
is. If you do not define the node number then the door will
tell you that you haven't and won't run.
/L - This command is used to go into the door for local mode.
Ex: chaos /l /n0
Multi-Node Usage:
*** See Chapter Four ***
Registration -
This door is maintained under the shareware concept. That you, the
sysop, will use this door for a trial period of time (In this case 31
days). After this period of time you are required to register or you
must take the door off of your board.
** So why Register? **
With registration you will be able to use all of the functions in the
editor included in the package. With this you will then be able to
edit almost anything that you desire to edit.
With the unregistered game a person will only be able to raise to
level 15, and then they won't be able to go any higher until the
registration of the game. They can use every function of the game
until level 15.
Another reason that you may want to register this fine door is because
with registering it you are supporting the door and supporting any
updates that I can make. So, with registering you can get that funny
feeling that you are helping out a shareware door author in making the
game a better one <g>.
** How to Register **
In order to find out how to register please refer to the ORDER.FRM
also included in the packet. Registration is only 15 U.S. dollars.
** Benefits of Registration **
With the registration of the door you will receive:
- Full support from Robert Colozza (The author).
- A registration code that will work with any previous or future
version of the door. This is a one-time registration fee. You
do not have to pay for future versions of Primal Chaos.
- The use of the powerful Primal Chaos editor.
- The knowledge that you are helping make Primal Chaos a bigger
and better game.
-=-=-=-=≡[ CHAPTER 2 ]≡=-=-=-=-
Making Primal Chaos a Fun Game -
** Well, this is already a fun game <g>, but we encourage you to try
and make it an even funner game by trying out some of these things.
** In order to make this a fun game.. we encourage you, the sysop, to
please not play the game yourself. Well, if you really want to play
this game... I guess you can <g>, but try and not make it obvious
that you are playing so people don't get the idea that you are just
winning because you are the sysop. People will accuse you of editing
yourself and the game will be a bore.
** Advertise the door in an opening screen. In doing this you will
encourage people to play and tell them that you have this game.
The more people that play, the more interaction, and the more fun
it is for the user. Included is the "BBSINTRO" opening screen in
both .ANS and .ASC formats. You can use this to advertise the door
on your BBS.
How to Reach Robert Colozza -
If you are having problems with Primal Chaos and no one can answer your
question..
Please either call the Primal Chaos Support Board and write to me about
your problem or crash mail me a letter over fido on the support BBS.

Crash mail to the (1:289/87) address.
Distribution Sites -
You can FREQ the latest version of Primal Chaos from -
The Rising Sun BBS (1:289/87)
MAGIC Name: CHAOS
-=-=-=-=≡[ CHAPTER 3 ]≡=-=-=-=-
Local Mode -
Running the Game in Local Mode is Very Easy.
This Command Line will run it in Local Mode: CHAOS /L /N0
When you run it in local mode it won't read the com routines or
carrier. You will be logged on under the name of Sysop. This
option can be used to test out the door and play around.
Resetting the Game -
This is actually a simple process. All you have to do, to reset
the game, is to run:
INSTALL -RESET
This will reset all of your data files and keep your registration
information in the data files for you so that you don't have to
re-enter your code every time you reset it.
Having Problems -
If you have any type of errors or any type of bugs that you find
please report them to Robert Colozza as soon as humanly possible.
Otherwise.. here is a list of errors that can occur.. and how to
fix them.
** Unable to determine Serial Port Address -
This error will only occur if you are not loading a fossil and you did
not edit the CHAOS.CFG correctly or you didn't input the serial port
address correctly in the EDITOR.EXE file.
** Unable to find (drop file) door information file -
This error will occur if you didn't put in the Drop File Path in the
Node Editor in the EDITOR.EXE program. Please refer to chapter one
on how to correctly setup the game.
** Not enough memory to run the door!
Well, this means that you don't have enough memory. I have never
actually have seen this problem, but it is a possibility. I think
that the door requires somewhere around 330K of Conventional memory
to run.
** The stupid thing keeps on locking up!!
This door is not programmed to lock up on you. If it does then I
suggest you re-install it. Follow the directions given exactly. If
it still locks up on you then make sure that you have input the
correct Serial Port Address in the EDITOR.EXE file, and if you have
then I suggest you try to run it without a fossil driver. Edit
the CHAOS.CFG file and activate the "NoFossil" command. Then go
through and activate the "PortAddress" & "PortIRQ" command inputting
the appropriate information. If this still doesn't work then I suggest
you get a new copy. If this still doesn't work then contact me and
I'll be glad to help you fix your problem.
** It just goes in and comes right back out of the game.
One reason that this may occur is if you have the wrong serial port
address inputted in the Node Editor in the EDITOR.EXE file.
If you're not doing this then try to not use a fossil:
Go into the CHAOS.CFG file and activate the command NoFossil. Doing
this will make it so that the door doesn't use a fossil driver to
run the door. This problem only occurs when using a fossil driver,
for some reason or another. Then activate the rest of the options
in the CHAOS.CFG file inserting the appropriate information for each
of the options.
-=-=-=-=≡[ CHAPTER 4 ]≡=-=-=-=-
Multi-Node BBS's:
This game is supposed to be Multi-Node compatible. I have tested it out
on Multi-Node BBS's and it seems that somehow the Player file does get
corrupted when play with more than one node at once. Therefore, please
setup the door to where it will only allow one person in at one time. I
am working on a future version that will have multi-node working.
If you wish to try Multi-Node, I won't stop you. Right now all of the MN
functions work, but I would be testy about trying it. If you do try it,
and figure out why the MN corrupts the player file, leave me a message at
the support board or NetMail me one.
